Statue of Liberty

Located on 12-acre Liberty Island in New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty was a gift of international friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is one of the most universal symbols of political freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886 and was designated a National Monument on October 15, 1924. The Statue was extensively restored in time for her spectacular centennial on July 4, 1986.

Tickets

A time-pass is required to enter the monument. A limited number of daily passes are available, on a walk-in basis, from the ferry company at no additional cost. Time passes and ferry tickets can also be reserved in advance for a handling fee of $1.75 per ferry ticket by calling 1-866-STATUE-4 or on-line at: www.statuereservations.com.

Visitors

Visitors experience a special insider's view of the engineering marvel that is the Statue of Liberty. To better understand this monumental work of art, visitors will be able to view inside the Statue through a glass ceiling, guided by a park ranger and an enhanced lighting and new video system. In addition, visitors can walk out onto the Statue’s observation deck to see the panoramic views of New York City and the Harbor, and witness the Statue up close from her promenade and Ft. Wood. The Statue's crown is not accessible and the torch has been officially closed since July 1916.

Transportation

The New York City metropolitan area is served by three major airports: Newark-Liberty International, LaGuardia, and JFK International.

Liberty Island is accessible by Circle Line-Statue of Liberty Ferry, Inc. ferries only. One round trip ferry ticket includes visits to Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Round trip ferry tickets cost $11.50 for ages 13+, $9.50 for senior citizens (62 and over), and $4.50 for children 3-12. Ferries depart from Battery Park in New York City and Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey. Private vessels are prohibited by law from docking at Liberty and Ellis Islands.

Battery Park is located at the Southern tip of Manhattan, off the West Side Highway South or the FDR Drive South. Parking is limited and can be expensive. Using public transportation is recommended. Please contact the ferry company at (212) 269-5755 for ferry schedules.

Liberty State Park in New Jersey is located off exit 14B of the New Jersey Turnpike. Please contact the ferry company at (201) 435-9499 for ferry schedules and parking information.
